This will be the first in a position by position series on the Fantasy Bargain Basement. This edition will be covering Quarterbacks.
Maybe you decided to load up on RBs? Maybe you’re stuck in a keeper league where everyone keeps the top QBs. Or, maybe you’re in a 2 QB league and looking for that extra edge. Below, you’ll find 4 options to ensure you bring home the gold this year.
1. Tyrod Taylor – Buffalo Bills
Taylor continues to be one of the most overlooked players in fantasy football. Despite finishing top-10 in points the past two seasons, he continues to tumble into the second or third tier of starting QBs. As long as LeSean McCoy stays healthy, their zone read threat will make “T-Mobile” a threat to run on every play; something his fantasy owners certainly won’t mind. With Sammy Watkins entering a contract year, and an updated slate of weapons, Taylor will be poised to have his best season yet, at a very bargain price.
2. Marcus Mariota – Tennessee Titans
Marcus Mariota was tearing up defenses all over the league last season until his unfortunate injury. This injury will hurt his draft stock, but all signs point to him being a full participant in training camp. Last season, he had a very nice 26:9 TD:INT ratio with an additional 350 rushing yards and two rushing TDs. The mobility of Mariota coupled with an upgrade in weapons should help push his stats to the next level. All of this creates a perfect storm of value where an injury may cause a top 10 QB to drop right into your lap.
3. Jameis Winston – Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Famous Jameis may actually live up to his nickname this year and breakout as the elite passer he was projected as coming out of Florida State. Last season, he surpassed 4,000 yards with nearly 30 TDs in his sophomore campaign. The 18 interceptions will hurt his value as well as a perceived risk with a team that struggled at times in Tampa Bay. Add in Desean Jackson, OJ Howard and another year of experience and those problems may be way in the rear view mirror. Snag Jameis later, and you may be laughing all the way to the bank.
4. Andy Dalton – Cincinnati Bengals
So, here you are. You’re in a 2QB league, all of the top tier guys are picked and you’re staring down the prospect of Trevor Siemian as your QB2. However, take a quick look at the 12th best fantasy QB in 2016. 4200 yards is quite a nice haul for a guy most drafters will pass over every time. His 18:8 TD:INT ratio will hurt his stock as you’d ideally like to see well over 20 TDs. However, beggars can’t always be choosers. Plus, low INTs are always a nice sight in today’s NFL. John Ross opposite AJ Green with Joe Mixon at RB should open things up for Andy, and your team as well.
